Henwen is a wise Celtic goddess, historically appearing as a magic pig, but who has now evolved into five women from the Robin Hoods Bay area of North Yorkshire who sing stunning contemporary acapella.
They are : Gillian Edwards, Fay Gillanders, Magda Phillips, Jill Sampson and Rowena Sommerville.
“Five distinctive women make up this ensemble, each with her own individuality, but the common denominator is their unique harmonisation, precision and natural blend, coupled with a sense of innate style and conviction about their topical and emotive material.”

Visit Helmsley Green Day on August the 16th and see and hear Caramba!
CARAMBA!
CARAMBA! - as our name suggests - is unashamedly addicted to the songs and dances of Latin America, all the way from Cuba to Chile. But we’re equally at home with the catchy rhythms of African music, and are happy to turn our hand to Gospel, or even our own compositions. We sing (often in several parts) and play many instruments, blending song and instrumental solo into a seamless web of foot-tapping virtuosity. Expect a rich and varied feast of habaneras, African township grooves, guajiras and Congolese rumbas, all garnished with a dizzying array of small percussion and the occasional outburst of uncontrolled yodelling. The group members are:

Here’s an updated list of events to be held during the day at Helmsley Green Day 2008:
- Workshops, including: Carrier Bag Workshops; Junk Metal and Willow Weaving
- Live Blacksmithing Demonstration by SaltBox
- Presentations by the Charcoal Foundation including construction of a traditional earth mound kiln
- See beautiful birds from the Birds of Prey Conservation Centre
- Children’s Activities including an educational environmentalist, Keeley Metcalfe, helping children to make their own ‘living’ gardens - hands on; and Judith Duncan story making with children

At Helmsley ‘Green Day’ Salt Box will be delivering a live blacksmithing demonstration showing basic blacksmithing techniques. Also see the completion of organic garden sculpture using recycled iron and steel.
