Carrier Bag Weaving workshop
The Charcoal Foundation is currently being established as a social enterprise to help the British charcoal industry. To raise public awareness of the environmental benefits of charcoal, as a means of fixing carbon, especially in the area of horticulture. At Helmsley ‘Green Day’ David Hutchinson will be constructing a tradional earth mound kiln and giving regular talks on the past, present and future of charcoal. There will be sales of charcoal.
Children’s Activities
- Keeley Metcalfe delivers environmental education workshops to schools and community groups across North Yorkshire and Teesside. She delivers interactive activities to engage children and help encourage them to engage with the environment. On the Green Day, Keeley will be helping children to make their own ‘living’ gardens - but she’s not giving any more clues away! This activity will be suitable for children of all ages and there will be a few other activities planned for the day to help children learn about flowers and plants.

Drumming Workshop
The Birds of Prey & Conservation Centre at Sion Hill Hall, near Thirsk, was set up to ensure that birds of prey would survive to provide the public with a rare opportunity to see and enjoy these beautiful birds. At Helmsley ‘Green Day’ there will be a display by Falconry UK Ltd of static and handling birds including white sea eagle, golden eagle, peregrine falcon, common buzzard, barn owl, little owl, kestrel and eagle owl.
Junk Metal workshop
Kirkbymoorside Natural Health Centre was founded in 2000 to provide a peaceful, relaxing environment for complementary therapies. Occupying the former Bethel Chapel, it comprises three treatment rooms, a workshop space and comfortable reception area. At Helmsley ‘Green Day’ Kirbymoorside Natural Health Centre are going to set up a taster corner in the garden giving demonstrations of the therapies they offer.
At Helmsley ‘Green Day’ Salt Box will be delivering a live blacksmithing demonstration showing basic blacksmithing techniques. Also see the completion of organic garden sculpture using recycled iron and steel.
